Have fun and good luck all Manatee racers! Congratulations to J for getting the job! Thirdly, welcome Anne! I just got back from a vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and am feeling the strains of the resort food (to put it lightly). My last couple of runs, my stomach has been in knots, but it's getting a lot better. On a positive note, Mexico was a ton of fun. I went on zip lines, went parasailing, and visited downtown Puerto Vallarta. The beaches were great, although a bit brown, and the hotel had all I would ever need (except maybe a bike path).
We were there in MY. Stayed at Dreams. Zip lining was incredible.

Well remembered, Kirsten! J's birthday is Tuesday, so we're headed out for dinner tomorrow night. His first day at the new job is next Monday, the 11th.

Conner - that Mexico vacation sounds amazing! Lots of adventures and fun.

Congrats all the racers! Congrats on new positions! Happy Birthday to birthday-folks!
I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe long weekend

I am back to the game after a whole week of stress with my kids going to Poland for 3 weeks... We have never been separated for more than two days, and now they are gone to another continent. So it's a huge adjustment for all of us, but they are doing great so far! I had a major separation anxiety on day 1 (when I went for camping I basically offered other moms I would babysit their kids.....), but then enjoyed being kids-free past day 2
I am planning to use this free time for more training, visit places that I could not visit with kids, watch tons of movies, and clean/re-organize my apartment. If I don't get sentimental by week 2

Have a great July!

That's actually a plan! 17-20 miles in the morning before work + a bit of run for brick workout, swim on the lunch break and then the 17-20 ride back home
Then open water swim at sunrise on Saturday with long ride and long run over the weekend! Life is beautiful!!! haha

(no, but seriously: 3 years ago if I did not have kids for almost a month I would die from partying and drinking.. Today I worry I will die from overtraining )

ARG! In 2017, they are switching the Boulder 70.3 and Boulder 140.6 dates - IM will be June 11 and the 70.3 will be August 5.

This is throwing a huge wrench into my race plans for next year!

I'm hoping to get into Oceanside 70.3 on April 1, 2017, which opens tomorrow. I've been told it sells out crazy fast and to be on my computer when registration opens. Then I was going to do Boulder 140.6 in August. Since it's now in June, I probably wont be able to do it because it's so soon after the school year. My last month of school is hectic with all the concerts and things, so preparing for a full that would be two weeks after school gets out would not be fun.

If I don't get into Oceanside, maybe I'll talk my husband into Vineman Full

I hope that you are enjoying your kid free time Mary.

Sorry I haven't been around a lot lately Manatees, life got really crazy.

Work got a little bit extreme a little over a week ago. Short story I had to let an employee go and then her mentally unstable husband started threatening to sue us (still a possibility), and has told other people I know that he is going to kill me and my boss and he was seen driving back and forward past my house by a neighbour who knows him and what is going on. Its fair to say that the whole thing has been fairly emotionally draining and made me fairly edgey.

Then last week we decided at the last minute to mate on of our dogs. I have every confidence that it will work this time because the puppies will be due the day before I am scheduled to run my first marathon.

The cold and dark of winter has truly set in too so I have lost what little running mojo I had. Its only 7.5 weeks until the Marathon and I am almost at the point of deciding to drop back to the half because I haven't done the training that I need too (sounding like a broken record here). My logs are up to date so some feed back on this would be good.

Any ideas that you have for running in the dark when the temperature is around 3*C would also be helpful. I have ordered a running beanie and some gloves that should be here on Friday so that should help a bit.

I'm so sorry about the nut job and his now unemployed spouse.  What a mess!

Running... Let's see, 3C is about 37F. At that temperature I wear something along the lines of CX-W tights, LS performance T, vest. My hands sweat in gloves so it has to be well below freezing for me to use them.  I have found that I need a lot fewer layers for running than for walking the dog.  I would put on my running gear and then put on sweatpants and a coat for walking Zoe, then take off the sweats and coat and run.

Fun! got you thinking about us! :D

Seriously though, it's such a pull with kids. I know if my little one was away for that long I would miss her so so so so much.

A co-worker had a similar thing last year and he was surprised at how much he missed his kids and how much time they had on their hands in the evenings! hahahah!

Definitely agree with what she said - wear layers so if you feel cold you can reduce. My hands are hot in general when i run so 3C is fine to run without but i know about that feeling cold when starting and if it is keeping you from going out then wear some.

I think the main thing is not talk yourself out of it. we are in the heat of summer which is just as easy to bail. So, if you're running in the morning then put out your clothes and everything you need so that when your alarm goes off you can go into robot mode and get up and get it done before you can talk yourself out of it. I find if i give myself room to say 'oh well, i will run after work and get a little more sleep' or start thinking it is too cold it won't happen. Same with in the day, just put everything out, that little extra organization will go a long way.

Plus, you can remind yourself of us northerners - 3C is a warm winter temperature! ha!

People think that I exercise in the morning because I am a morning person. In reality, I cannot stand to talk to people until I've been up for hours! I am a robot in the morning!

First, I'm sure you're not taking the stalking, threatening activities lightly, but just to make sure, don't take this stuff lightly! It probably is just a creep trying to scare you a bit, but please make sure you have reported this to the police and keep yourself safe. Be aware of your surroundings at all times (good advice for all of us all the time).  Don't let this run your life, but take the necessary precautions.

Good news on the potential puppies!  I love to see your puppy pictures!  The timing is not so great though!! I'll take a look at your logs in a bit and give you my sage advice But I'd hate for you to talk yourself out of the marathon.  I think most of us go through peaks and valleys in training and you just need to suck it up and stick with the plan and eventually you will come out of the valley.  Someone recently posted on FB something like: some people wish it, some people dream, other people do it.   Be the do it!

I don't get a lot of cold weather running, but I do run very early in the morning, so I'm always running in  the dark.  I love it!  Of course, I run with a group and that helps get me out the door.  When we do have our winter, 37* would be quite cold for us.  I'd wear capris, a long sleeve t over a short sleeve and gloves.  I'd probably ditch the long sleeve once I was warmed up.  My hands get cold easily, so the gloves are a must for me. I might put them on and off over the course of a long run, but I definitely need to have them.

Do you tend toward feeling hot or cold? Windy?
I always seem to feel overheated, so take this with a grain of salt: It it were 2*C, dark, and a little windy, I'd wear full length tights, a regular long sleeved running shirt (not a mock neck or anything with a brushed interior) my vest, and lightweight gloves. For the darkness, I do a headlamp, plus a reflective cuff on my arm that has blinkies in it. If it were windier, I might add in a bandana around my ears.

Hola everyone! I have been around, but have been having a hard time checking into the group regularly  - sorry!
Hope everyone is doing well. I have gone off the deep end and registered for a 55K in February, sounds like fun, no?

Coming off of a tibial stress fracture in 2000, stevebradley made his way into triathlon. Now he has over 60 triathlons completed and is one of the most active mentor groups on BT.

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
