I'm doing great, muscles and energy levels are fine (not-minor miracles of themselves) but the pain's at DEFCON 1 despite the med-tent (why do all my races end there?!) and now at-home treatments. Even the skin was brutally painful stretching on each stroke. YOW. So were chip seal roads the issue? |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed I guess it is therapeutically funny if one is not American. I am just scared. It's gotten to the point where I can't stand to listen to any of the campaign stuff. I just hit mute on the remote. No offense to any Trump-loving Manatees, just my personal opinion. I wouldn't vote for him even if I were a Republican, which I'm not (fairly conservative Democrat). Honestly don't know who I'd vote for at this point---don't really like any on either side. But this is probably a matter for Political COJ, not Manatees, who hopefully just swim happily in a pod and avoid politics. |

Veteran 659 East Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Sorry about the knee swelling Yanti! Well I had a great race yesterday! It's my first race of the year and the first race since May of last year. Local 15k that is an incredible event. My goal was sub 1h20m and I nailed that with a 1:18 at a 8:21 min/mile. I'm very pleased with this going into Galveston in a few weeks and with Boulder on the horizon. Great start to the season! |

Member 285 Cypress, Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Yanti: Sorry about the knee. Please heal up quickly Jonathan: Great race! I got pressured into doing the BP MS 150 on April 16/17th. This will be my first time. ~ 175 miles over two days. I hope I don't fall apart on the 2nd day as that's when hills start to come into the equation. Good news is we have a Sales guy at our office that has a little ranch close to the half way mark where we can spend the night instead of sleeping with thousands of other people in tents. I hope the wind starts to settle down within the next month. I went out Saturday and some of the crosswinds and gusts where crazy, plus I had to lead most of the ride as my neighbors road bike had issues and he decided to take his MTB instead. |

Check this out! 11 Reasons We Don’t Care That You Hate Our Race Stickers I think that #4 may be my favorite: "Did you ever think that maybe those stickers serve an extreme purpose? When we are going to a race, it keeps us from getting lost because all we have to do is look at all the other cars with race stickers on them and we know we are going the right way." Have a great day!

Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Hey all. I've got some catching up to do, and wanted to stop in... I've been quiet here, as we had another death in the family a few weeks back. Last grandparent (mom's mom). This one was more a celebration of a LONG and well lived life - she was a hoot right up to the end! Eerily similar to my Mom's services a couple months back (same town, family, etc.), but was great to celebrate again with family, and we were back (with kids) to see her the week before she passed. So, I'm feeling very lucky that she and the great-grandkids (and grandkids! - me and my sibs) got to see each other again before she passed. Caught a nasty crud on a biz trip to Belgium couple weeks back and am better, except for either a pulled intercostal or broken rib. Little sore, but... I'M GETTING BACK IN THE POOL TONIGHT! First swim in something like forever. And this just in - I think I'm gonna register for a race or two this year, after all. A year off is enough! Best, Matt |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed BIG (((hugs))) for Yanti and McMatt. That knee, Yanti, looks oh so painful. A BIG high flipper (instead of high five) to Jonathan, Janyne and Hands on good races this weekend! Anyone hear from NC Robin? My hockey team, the Black Widows, have officially made it into playoffs next weekend! I think we landed in 2nd place in the division, the point standings were ridiculously close down to the wire, with each game being important to position. We finished the regular season with a win against the first place team, which probably had a lot to do with they only had 7 skaters for the game, but hey, we beat them and finished on a high note! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed I signed up for this 10k this weekend as a fun way to get my 26 mile run done. The 10k starts at 0900 but I figured since packet pickup starts at 0700 I can get there early and do the 5k loop a couple times before the 10k starts, then use a combination of the two loops until I get my 26 in. Do you think that would be weird for the race organizers to have me out on the course before/after? Should I let them know? Also, I can't seem to map the course on Google or Strava so I'm counting on them having it marked, at least for the early going. |

As for the race, tough one. The site says it's "timed," but I don't know if that's electronically or not. If so, it might throw things off if you're crossing the pads. I'd at least let them know, and maybe nicely ask permission. If it's low key, might not be an issue. The only thing I'd say for sure is to have a backup plan. I hate the idea of you getting there all geeked up to leverage the race into your (crazy) long run and then not be able to get on the course and such... Have fun and GOOD LUCK!!! M |

The trails/roads are open to the public. So, before shouldn't be a big deal (just don't get in the way of set up!). There is some potential concern that if you go back onto the course while the race is still going on that you could interfere with those still racing. however, I assume that you could avoid that by starting over at the start, but this depends on the course layout. I don't know that you need to tell them what you are doing, but with a small race like most trail races, it wouldn't hurt to let them know. I read the 10k description. You've picked a challenging way to get your 26 done! |
