I'm sure there are a lot of us in the same boat. Yeah more daylight after work is great but I run in the AM and I'd prefer light then thank you very much! drive by posting. FYI if anyone is still on the trainer and need good netflix watching this past season of House of Cards was AWESOME.

Ah man, I have been trying to restrain myself from totally binging. I've got some conspiracy theories on what I think is going to happen. The characters are so fascinating in that show. Francis and Claire's relationship is incredible (you know what I mean, entertainment-wise.

Those of you who have known me a while know that I am constantly waffling on the idea of a coach and giving up any kind of control in my training. I understand the value of outside perspective but I think where I get stuck is WHOs outside perspective and when to override my thoughts and feelings with that perspective.

I'm still incredibly skeptical but I think I may have found someone to work with in some capacity! It's a husband/wife. She's a big endurance/trail/mountain runner and his background was in professional nordic skiing. Their philosophy is all around the balance of both science and art, citing Canova and Daniels in the more technical parts of their philosophy but with a huge emphasis on not just the work put in but your bodies specific (and very personal) response.

I finally reached out to them and funny enough, they mentioned wanting to reach out to me about commissioning me to do some art! I leave on vacation on Sunday but when I get back we will chat and work something out.

I really need to think about what I want out of it and even think more specifically about what my own goals are. I have a very conceptual idea but I probably need some more measurable benchmarks. But it's very exciting!

Just finished HO Cards yesterday. Much better this season compared to last. Haven't got into flash or daredevil, but have daredevil lined up on netflix. Can't get jet (sorry, can't remember what it was called) but I've watched the UK version made by the same people (The thick of it. Look it up if you want a taste of UK politics with the same humour as veep). Other stuff I've been watching, Jessica Jones, Better call Saul and I've just started watched how to get away with murder. Not too sure of that one yet. Anything else any of you can recommend.?

On Hulu rather than Netflix, but I'm really enjoying 11.22.63 (go back in time and prevent JFK's assassination, based on Steven King's book) Really good stuff! I actually prefer Daredevil to Jessica Jones!

I plow through quite a bit of TV while sitting on a trainer. Breaking Bad, Vikings, game of thrones, Top gear are a few plus many many movies. I started better call Saul and Sopranos but find they are a little slow so most recently I watched Long Way Down / Round and that lead to a series on a guy biking the Pam / American highway.

Salty it's so incredible that you found a coaching team that fits you. I'm not making any decisions until after Moab but, of course, the "what's next" thoughts are rattling around in my head. There is a local ultra runner/coach that I've thought about talking to. But first I have to figure out what I want . :/

I really liked DareDevil.  I'm trying to finish House of Cards now, so that I can jump into Season 2 of DD.

I'm equal opportunity! Love me some DC & Marvel in equal measure, although obviously none will ever compare to the joy of a weekend full of Star Trek. Anybody else watching DC's Legends of Tomorrow? It makes D-list superheroes (and anti-heroes) fun to watch. Two thumbs up.

My preference is, well, all of it! Been fun watching how both are setting up gigantic networks of tie-ins with their timelines and crossovers. Daredevil & Jesica Jones both refer to the incident in New York (meaning The Avengers movie). Those two almost came together at the end of JJ, but think they are waiting for The Defenders for that, though not entirely sure what all DD season 2 will bring. Not sure if either will get into the big screen action or over on Agents of Shield yet. Though Agents has tied in with the big movie releases at times. The plots are nuts in there, but have still found it fun enough.Wish they could have an Avenger in there now and then, but it'd be really expensive. They have brought in Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury a couple times and one of Thor's friends (Lady Sif). Still need to see Agent Carter, but seems like it might be fun. I wait for Netflix on most everything.

DC has been setting up their huge network with all the shows. Arrow started it, then building up with Flash and Supergirl. The first two did have various crossovers and I think Flash and Supergirl should be having some too.I don't know if Gotham will ever make it over as it's more of an older origins setup for Batman and all his adversaries. Still waiting on seeing both Supergirl and DC:LoT. They could go either way.

Something a little more hidden in these is a history factor. The actor playing Flash's dad is the guy who played The Flash in the series back in the 90's. Supergirl's mom played Supergirl back in that movie and her dad is Dean Cain who played Superman back in the 90's. Both have a few other of the actors worked in too.

Have mixed thoughts on DC seeming to have separate actors playing the movie vs series parts, but guess I understand why as the series actors may not be able to draw as much in the box office. The Suicide Squad (coming out August) was introduced in Arrow, but was redone with some new characters and all new actors. Deadshot is in both, but played by some random guy vs Will Smith. I don't know if Joel Kinnaman or Margo Robbie are that big of names yet (growing some though), but more so than some from the series. Michael Jai White was Bronze Tiger in the series Squad. He starred in Spawn, but so many don't know either the actor or that character.

Congrats on the coach! I know it's a big step and one I struggled with for a long time. It sounds like they have their heads in the right place. I get scared off by anyone who's really dogmatic and thinks that any one approach is the only one for everyone. Maybe partly due to my background in teaching--I've been at it long enough to realize that while there are basic principles (of psychology, learning, etc.) that we can think of as "best practice", in reality, how to apply those varies hugely with different individuals. Some kids really need a lot of encouragement and a gentle touch; others respond best to "tough love"; some do best when you set them an interesting problem, sit back, let them struggle with it, and help only when they are truly stuck; others need to be spoon-fed for a while until they feel confident, etc. etc. And then with coaching, you add the whole issue of physical strengths/weaknesses and response to training stress, as well as psychological make-up....

I think it's important to remember that it's always a dialogue (or should be). Nobody really has to "override" the other, or totally give up "control". Where I have let my coach "override" me has been in learning to do different kinds of workouts (especially on the bike) that I had no idea even existed before.... Clearly, as a top AG competitor and coach, she knows a lot more than me about this stuff, and probably any workout she makes up would be better than what I could come up with on my own, given my less-than-stellar record on the bike!

When I do have serious reservations about something my coach has planned, I let her know that in advance. She doesn't insist, but will give her input or suggest a modified workout, and I'll make a decision to do the workout as written, or modify it as needed. In the few cases where I haven't shared my reservations and just done the workout anyway, I've sometimes regretted it. This usually has to do with cumulative fatigue from not just training but my job, poor sleep, or a minor illness, that makes a workout just too much on a particular day (and ends impacting training for another day or two). I think that especially with a coach who's not physically there day to day (the good ones can usually tell if they see you in person, from your appearance or run form), in the end you have to make that call for yourself, coach or no coach.

I am a NON racing Manatee. We decided we were too far behind with chores from being ill and recent traveling to take another weekend away for a race. Since we are leaving for a week in another 2 weeks, it just didn't seem like a wise way to spend our time.  It is too bad, we have about 20 friends who gather for this event.  (If any one wants to get some functional strength training in, we have lots of very physical yard work for you to help with: mulching, weeding, planting, trimming and general getting the property ready for the season.

Happy Birthday Randee and Happy Birthday a day late, Monica.

On Hulu rather than Netflix, but I'm really enjoying 11.22.63 (go back in time and prevent JFK's assassination, based on Steven King's book) Really good stuff! I actually prefer Daredevil to Jessica Jones!

Did Nurse Jackie pick it up again in the last seasons? Got tired of it after a strong start.

Thought Homeland Season 4 picked it back up a good deal. They'd been dragging things out too much with the Brodies and finally shook that at the end of Season 3. Though Carrie is still really out there at times.

Wish I had more shows to suggest. I tend to watch more movies when trainer riding as I go for so long. Even if the series is good, watching multiple episodes in one ride tends to be make it feel longer.

Well I thought the end of nurse Jackie was great. It got boring when she was clean. Luckily if didn't last long ;p

Congratulations racers for your hard work this weekend. Happy Birthday Monica and Randee! I've been gone for more than a week, so let me catch you up. After the race, my family went to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate my sister's birthday. The next morning, I had a terrible stomach ache. Normally that will happen the night of the adventure, but this lasted until Wednesday coughing all along the way. Because of this, I wasn't able to do any kind of exercise, which makes me antsy and a little bit more prone to cramping up out of nowhere. It happened something like 10 times this week. Anyway, I went out for an easy bike ride today to test where I was at and see if I was in the clear to start some sort of exercise routine. I can tell you that I am NOT ready. I started coughing intensely every time I put in some sort of effort harder than a leisurely pedal. Oh well, another few days of lying on my butt all day, but at least the stomach ache is gone and all I have to worry about is this stupid respiratory thing. Other than being sick, I did have a fun spring break and I'm hopeful that my life will return to normal soon.

P.S. Sorry about all of the complaining lately. Not being to do what I want to do sometimes gets me in a bad mood, and that's when I feel compelled to post.

its frustrating to get sick and kept from what we like to do but unfortunately sometimes there isnt too much we can do but wait. You will be back up and running soon.

* Assuming it isnt serious - in which case you need to go to the Dr.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
