Swim
Comments: Well this being my first Ironman swim start. I was completely nervous about getting my ass beat, so I started at the very back along the buoy line. I really didnt have any major problems, got bumped a few times, nothing too serious. I was really happy the first mile because I felt like I swam a perfectly straight line and when I got to the red buoy at the turn around I checked my watch and it said 41 minutes. I was thinking....wow I might have a 1:20ish swim.... Yeah sure! :p I must have been swimming all over the place because that wasnt the case I hit the stairs and looked at my watch and it said 1:37. Bummer!!! :( I got up the stairs and was lead to the wetsuit strippers. They got my suit off in like 1/2 a second. Wow! What would you do differently?: Mabey start a little closer to the middle/back? I dont know....Get faster? Transition 1
Comments: Damn, Damn, Damn.....Forgot the Gummy Bears :( I thought about those things for 112 miles Bike
Comments: Well, Im sure everybody is saying the same thing about the bike....Fucking windy and hot!!!!! I had rode the Beeline two days before and I was really excited because my average pace for 22 miles was 18 mph. and that was a very comfortable, easy pace. I thought....shit I am going to have a great bike. So, I got out of transition hopped on my bike and pretty much as soon as we got out onto the course I felt the wind and I thought,...oh shit. I didnt think there was supposed to be that much wind today? Just tried to mentally prepare myself for 112 miles of wind. Im telling you...felt like 20 miles of climbing on the way out. I was looking at my pace and it would range from 10mph to 14mph and I was watching my personal time goal for this race disappear. On the way back to town I was averageing between 21mph and 27mph. This was better, but still wouldnt make it up. On the second loop of the bike my stomach was starting to get upset. I had 2 bottles of Carbo pro/Heed and my aerobottle with water. I drank both bottles of Carbo pro and must have went through 8 bottles of water. I got water at every aid station. I tried to eat, but my stomach wasnt co-operating. Took 3 gels in. Still no help. By the third loop it was getting much worse. I kept thinking if I could just throw up I would feel better, but at the same time I knew if I started to throw up I wouldnt stop. Classic signs of heat issues and dehydration. Anyway, tried to just ignore it. Oh...on the 3rd loop at an aid station this guy was right behind me screaming for Gatorade and he wasnt slowing down at all. All of a sudden I heard him go down I turned around and saw him on the ground he just looked like he was in shock. It didnt look good at all. I hope he was okay. I screamed Oh my god and the girl that handed me my water screamed at me just keep going....go, go, go. Made it back into transition and I kept thinking.. how the hell am I going to run 26 miles now. My stomach just felt like shit. What would you do differently?: Calm the winds and Cool the heat. Transition 2
Comments: Volunteer in tent was amazing. She helped me so much. Got me ice for my ziplock I had to put down my top. changed my shorts (poor gal). I had caked my socks with bodyglide and I was soooo glad on the run that I did. Got all situated and ran out for more sunscreen and was sucked into conversation with this dude lol...he said...no matter what time you come in tonight...just remember that you did better than the Defending champ. I said What? He told me Rutger Beke dropped out. I thought...well...I guess that is something? Run
Comments: I was off to a great start I did the first three miles under 10min/mile pace and I was happy because running felt better. I thought my stomach might be okay. Kept running and I had the ice down my top which kept my core cool. I think this helped a great deal. I had in training ran a couple of 20's so I knew I was capable of running the whole way, but I understand now why they say nutrition is the most important thing in an Ironman. Without fuel, the body WILL NOT CO-OPERATE! I had a really hard time forcing anything down my throat. Could barely stomach water. When I got to mile 16 felt really sick again. I would walk through the aid stations and tried broth and water. No good. Ran another few miles and I really couldnt get anything else down. Got to the bridge and stepped up to some bushes and got sick. I felt sooo much better and started to run and pick it up and it lasted about oh....5 minutes. I couldnt take it anymore and I started to get tunnel vision. I started to walk...well actually I started to weeble. I was miserable. Walked about 3 miles. Got to aid station and I told this volunteer lady that I was nauseated and couldnt get anything in. She told me just drink coke. That's it, just coke. I drank the coke. Walked a while and damn, if I didnt start to feel better. Kept drinking coke and felt better and better. Started to run again. Got to mile 23 and really started to speed up cause I thought I could make under 15hours. The last mile I ran 9 min/mile I saw my folks and I told them they should be at the finish. They thought I had another loop. I said..."hell no, Im done...go to the finish" I rounded the corner saw the shute literally gasped and sprinted all the way in I heard.....Kerry Hutchings....you are an Ironman....Oh and she is also a tattoo artist....(made me giggle). I got my finisher stuff and was wisked away into med tent. Sipped on water for about an hour and a half. My parents never came to the tent. I was like...Oh hell no, I am not walking around looking for them. I finally gave in and got my ass up and went on the search for them. I saw my mom....she started crying, I was yelling at her that I was in the med tent for an hour and a half. She was worried because she thought I hadnt finished yet and I wasnt going to make it... I felt really bad. :( She gave me a big hug and said she was so proud of me. Post race
Warm down: Med Tent.....Geesh...what's a girl gotta do to get an IV around here? What limited your ability to perform faster: Duhhhhhh? Last updated: 2008-02-14 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:45. Filled my bottles and got dressed. Tried to eat a little something, but I just couldnt. Nerves!!! My mom stayed overnight in my hotel to help me get ready in the morning. It was so nice to have her with me.
No real warm up. Just all the walking around getting stuff ready and back and forth to the bathroom about 100 times. Oh and of course getting the brand new wetsuit on was a warm up and a half :)
