Overall Rank = /
Age Group = clyde
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Rocketman and J22 came and gave me a ride from my condo to the race site. I forgot my PBJ so I just went with a Gel before the race.
Event warmup:

Hung out, set up transition and did a couple quick laps to get acclimated to the water
Swim
  • 37m 57s
  • 2078 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a pretty good swim for me. Solid considering my lack of training in this dept. I grew up in Daytona and surfed alot, so I was totally fine with the conditions. I did stray a little off the buoys on the return swim, but caught it before I lost more than a minute or so. Upon exiting the water, I saw them working on someone, little did I know It would be a tragic day. My thoughts and prayers going out to the Kane family
What would you do differently?:

swim more!
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Crossed transition mat, stopped and pulled off wetsuit and had a pretty clean transition. It was a large transition area, so I am pleased with this time
What would you do differently?:

continue to practice and find ways to shave seconds
Bike
  • 2h 37m 51s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride for me. I was passing people all over the place the first half. Had a nice tailwind and was easily pushing 24+ mph. played leapfrog with Kraig most of this ride. the return trip was much more difficult. At times I was cranking it out and only going 17-18 mph into the headwind. All the fancy aero bikes finally started catching me a little. I finished strong and aced the flying dismount. I felt I was going to crush this race at this point.
What would you do differently?:

Work on cadence to save the legs for the run. I pushed huge gears, and pretty much mashed it out. That said, this was my best ever bike split on any distance
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

pretty clean. I took an extra few seconds to put on socks and take a gel
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 35m 1s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I bonked after mile 3. I was puking and my mind/body did not respond to anything. It was the worst run I have ever had. I walked by mile 5 and and run walked the rest of the way. the only thing that helped was the pepsi. I had no nutrition/hydration plan and the payoff sucked. I finally mustered the strength to run the last 3/4 miles to finish running.
What would you do differently?:

Practice nutrition and hydration- have a plan. Also I am going to start doing some shorter rides followed by long runs.
Post race
Warm down:

stumbled across the finish line dazed and confused. had a beer and wondered "what the hell just happened?!"

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I gave it my all- I just didn't have a plan and possibly disrespected the distance. I still PR'ed, so I am not too disapointed. It was a good learning experience and I had a great time with the NAMC people.

Event comments:

This is an A+ event. I missed the party, but heard it was a blast. I will do this race again

You missed the party??  Who are you??

Great race in some very difficult conditions.  You rocked the swim and bike and it sounds like you've self-analyzed the run really well.  Congratulations on your HIM PR!

The nutrition thing kicked my butt at mile 3 too.  Great race despite the conditions this year!

When are we going to figure out this nutrition thing? Just when we think we understand.....our bodies throw us back to reality. Great job finishing a race with rough, windy and hot conditions!

I think we all had great races until the run.  Next time, you, me and Kraig just need to man up and finish strong.  We are chicks.

Congrats on a PR! That's awesome given your run fell off the track..I think that was the theme of the day. Nice work pulling together a great race despite your up-chuck Swim and bike times were spot on..not to mention T times. Nice race.

Wow - you still had one heck of a race despite the issues on the run.  I'm sure you'll have a better plan for the next one!  Congrats on a great race.

I know you didn't get the run you wanted but a great race anyway.  your strength on the bike is fantastic.  Watch out Westpoint Lake and Chattanooga, you gonna eat them up.  Good job maintaining that record of PRing every race.

Good race - your bike split was ridiculous - you are fast!! A new PR, solid swim and bike, and a finish in brutal conditions - you did an awesome job. Congratulations!
