Age Group Rank = 3/3
Pre-race routine:

Went to bed at midnight. Woke up every hour until 4:30 am. Ate bowl of cereal w/ lots of water. Drove 40 mins to race site.
Event warmup:

None. Does racking my bike in transition count? :)
Swim
  • 12m 24s
  • 400 meters
  • 03m 06s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Not swim in ocean!
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Well, everything was going fine until I realized my handlebars were stuck in between the spokes of the bike that was next to mine. Could not get it unstuck for the life of me. Finally managed to break free after ripping my handlebar tape off. Ugh!
Bike
  • 44m 8s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 16.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really good on the bike portion actually. Ate my hammer gel halfway thru the bike so I could make it up the gigantic, enormous bridge!! Wasn't too much wind to deal with so that was a relief.
What would you do differently?:

Have a better bike. :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Well, since I was really getting into the race, I thought- I'll just go sockless to save some time. BIG MISTAKE LISA! I was fine til mile 2 and then I felt the blisters forming. Nothing I could do. It was probably all the sand /seaweed from coming out of the swim part. We had to jog across a big stretch of sand to get to the transition area.

What would you do differently?:

Run faster!
Run
  • 28m 48s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I actually felt really good about my run. I didn't stop at all except at the aid station to get a drink. Very pleased with my run!
What would you do differently?:

WEAR SOCKS FOR GOD'S SAKE! As I type this I have like 10 bandaids on my poor, blistered feet. I can barely walk.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank, met up with Cari (other BTer) and tried to find Sharon- but she was still on the course.
Apparently I got a medal for 3rd place in my age group. Don't get excited - there were only 3 people in my age group, LOL!

Event comments:

Don't know times for all 3 events. Will post them as soon as the race director puts them up! Was really happy to see that I was 39/105 for the overall women.

Hey!  Way cool, I'm so psyched that you had a race today.  Real ocean swims are a trip.  All my salt water swims have been in the Gulf de Mexico, so I've never really dealt with those ocean currents.  Congrats for hanging in there.  Which bridge did you climb?  Was it the one from downtown Miami out across Biscayne Bay to the beaches?  I know you were busy making the climb, but did you get a chance to enjoy the view?

Miami is one of my all time favorite spots.  Probably a great place to do a tri.  Sounds like you did great considering all of the obstacles.  My recomendation would be to drink more Cervesa the night before.

Thanks for sharing the race report.  Rock on, Lisa!

Okay, Lisa.  Time to embarrass you.  I told Lisa to mention this, but she's just too modest.  She told me that another girl in the transition area with her said was a good biker Lisa is.  What a woman!

Great race Lisa.

WOW, Lisa... Way to deal with all the mishaps and still come away with the hardware! And, who cares if there were only 3 people in your age group... The point is that you were one of them! You were out there and you stuck it out.

CONGRATS to you!

Atta girl, Lisa.

I'm sorry your swim was no fun, but it looks like you rocked the rest of the race. Congrats on bringing home the iron!

Great job. That is a tough race with the bridge and the crappy water there. You're pretty brave going sockless. I tried it in practice a couple of times and didn't get past 1-2 miles.

Yeah Lisa!!

That sounded like a rough swim...and then the blisters!! You can tell everyone you ran a marathon with 10 of them on your feet!

Great work!

Great job Lisa!!! There's no hardware for whiny quitters, so be proud of your hardware. Sorry to read about all of the misfortune, but that's how we grow and get better, isn't it?
