How many times a day do you call/talk to SO when at work?

 244  |  Subject: How many times a day do you call/talk to SO when at work?Just wondering. I feel like I'm bugging DH if I call more than once a day. I never call to just talk though, usually its to talk about the kids (whos picking up who from what etc). |

DH has had to get used to the fact that I am not a phone person and I am more often in meetings that make texting and e-mail a better alternative. |

Even when the kids were young, unless there was an urgent change in plans (e.g. kid got sick at school), we pretty much never communicate during the day. When we do, it is usually by text, since it is more succinct and efficient overall, without interupting either of our work flow. |

Once was when our son was hit by a car and the other was another emergency involving being locked out of my car in the winter with the kids. But, my husband is in the Navy and calling to chat isn't something that is looked highly upon. If I need something, I'll text. That way if he's busy, he can ignore it until he has a minute to reply. |

We're not really into the whole text messaging situation, either. On any given month, I receive ~500 voice messages at work. Therefore, I'm pretty burned out on using phones, and keep my personal phone use to a minimum. |

If she does, her first question is, "can you talk?" Now that the kids are grown and gone, we exchange a text or email to coordinate things. |

He's in meetings and I'm on the phone all day... so eMail is a better alternative. If something needs an immediate answer, I'll usually send a text. Sometimes I'll call him just to chat on the ride home from work... But I'm not a big "chatter" really. |

If it's not really important we just IM each other because we don't want to be spending too much time in each other's offices, legit or not, because it could look bad. We get to eat lunch together almost every day. |

It's something I just deal with even though it bugs the heck out of me. Doesn't matter if she knows I'm with a client, she'll call to ask me about something that could easily wait until later. She gets it from her family though. We've been married almost eight years and her parents still call her 2-5+ times a day! Sigh. |

Usually once in the AM to determine what she might want for dinner, and then once in the late afternoon to see when she will be leaving work so I know when to start making dinner. When I'm at work and she's home, I try to call her once before she goes to bed. |

In the car on the way to work, dozens of times before 8:30am, every 80 minutes after that, every lunch break and during prep/PLC time. Our classrooms are right across the hall from each other and we're team teachers...pretty much together 24/7--unless I'm swimming, biking or running! Wouldn't have it any other way. |

He usually likes me to call before I head out for my run and after I get back just to make sure I'm not in a diabetic heap somewhere, or I'll send a text. We do text or e-mail a lot through the day when I'm at job a, at job b I can't have my phone on me so that waits till breaks when I'll send a text. But this is how our relationship has always been. We both have the same expectation of communication. We like to hear from each other, even if it is mundane things. I think where it becomes a "problem" is if partners have different levels of comfort with these things. |

We even moved out of the country and her parents still call via Skype all the time. It is obnoxious. I swear, they think she is still only 16 or something, not 27, married, with 2 kids. I am ok with a close knit family, but that is nuts. Cut the umbilical FFS! As it is, she used to call me constantly at work. I finally told her I have a job to do and not to call unless it is important. Now I almost never hear from her via phone, but she does email me now and then which is fine. |
