This is my granddaughter Peyton.  She is 22 months old.

Peyton

She is right now at Sick Kids Hospital having an MRI as they are trying to diagnose the cause of a white cloudy spot in her left eye.  They don't think it's glaucoma or a cataract; it could be a tumor.  I'm watching her little sister while her parents are in TO with her.  She spent yesterday afternoon there having an eye exam and tomorrow goes back to be sedated so they can dilate her pupils and get a better look at the eye.  My daughter doesn't want to tell the family anything until they know for sure what the problem is.  Little girls should not have to go through things like this, I'm very worried about her.  She and her sister are the best thing in our life.. we just love them so much.

Please send your good vibes our way.

My thoughts are with your family.  I really hope your granddaughter doesn't have Retinoblastoma but if she does there is no better place to be than at Sick Kids.  I have been following the journey of a little boy that was diagnosed with this and three years later he is doing well thanks to the work of the doctors at Sick Kids.

Boy you made me re-live  one of the hardest times of my life. My daughter has very blue eyes. When she was little she looked lie a little doll and people would come up to us in the supermarket just to admire her. (She is still beautiful, but must get it from her mother).

Anyway, because her eyes are so blue I noticed that her pupils did not seem to dialate the same. We took her to  the doctor and then went to the hospital for tests. My BIL, a doctor was tactful for once and did not say what he thought (wrongly) it was, a tumor. The tests were brutal. She was only a few months old. At one point they put cocaine in her eyes, which stings like made, so they said. She cried like nothing I had ever heard before. I cried just having to endure listening to it.

She had to undergo x-rays and MRI. To keep he still, I had to hold her for the x-ray, wearing a lead apron. I sangh to her the whole time (Beatles songs and a folk singer named Bill Stains) The nurses cried the whole time I sang. They gave her a little seation for the MRI. Watching her being moved into the machine made her seem even smaller.

After all the tests, it turns out she has Horner's syndrome, the most benign version. It simply means her eyes do not dialate the same. Severe shows as dropping eyes. SO all turned out ok.

Here is hoping your little Peyton has as good luck!

Doug

P.S. I cried just recalling the experience while writing this. and I am hoping with all I have for a good outcome for you and yours. IT CAN HAPPEN!
