Subject: RE: KONADay 2- Much better. Awoke at 7AM and NFL games are on? They start earlier in HI? That's weird. I went out for a walk and got a few pics of the surf and lava rocks near the ocean. Interesting facts about The Big Island. It is a 2-sided Island - Hilo and Kona. Hilo averages more than 150" of rain a year and Kona averages 10" a year. True fact. No umbrella stores in Kona. Small business idea if anyone is listening. The island has the world's most active flowing volcano and because of this - it is actually ADDING real estate every single day. Good place to be a realtor. Anywho, after a few surf pics I found a small beach and there were about 15 locals surfing and bodysurfing is some serious surf. I went closer to check it out and quickly found out this was the same crew that was in Point Break. The ones that attacked Keanu. I was like, "hey dudes, I am here for the race...Aloha." They didnt care and chased me away. I tried to explain as I was running for my life that I loved Point Break. Didn't matter. Got some breakfast about 10AM at Denny's and needed some serious coffee. Problem was, it was 4PM ATL time and if I drink coffee that late in the afternoon, I'll never fall asleep. Wait, wait time is it here? Nevermind, I can't find my watch. Drove around a bit and there are people running ad cycling everywhere. And fast. All the athletes are in a big hurry, pace wise. Why not slow down and enjoy the scenery. I got in an easy 4 miler in the afternoon and it was hot but ran it in 35:12. Was passed 9 times by other runners. I did fly by one dude. He placed 3rd in in the 90-94 AG last year in Kona. No mercy. Of course I was on mile 2 and he likely on mile 12. Back to the crib and time to relax. We leave to pick up Justin about 30 min. I am looking forward to seeing him although I am sure he is exhausted. First couple pics are the view from our balcony and then a view of the surf from early this morning. FYI - the last pic is near that Point Break beach and it has a sign that says Kapu. I took hawaiian in college and I think that means "private beach - no triathletes". See everyone tomorrow!! |
