Anybody else ever loose their wedding ring during a open water swim? For future guidance, it sucks, and your spouse will not be thrilled. I lost mine tonight in the Chesapeake Bay. The water is so murky, you literally can't see past your elbow when extended, so no chance of finding it. More future guidance, replacing a ring is more expensive than just finding one for the first time. You are all now warned.

Oh, I'm so sorry!  Hopefully you and your husband can enjoy shopping for a new one together.  I guess it's best to leave it at home during tri-related activities.

Don't swim with it, dude.  Leave it in your locker/bag/car/etc.  Trust me.Embarassed

Then have fun explaining why you took off your ring and left it in the car before going to meet a bunch of triathlete ladies in swimsuits.

Face it you're burned either way.  Buy ten identical rings and keep them in a safe deposit box.

I don't train in jewelry period. When I was married I wouldn't even wear mine to run in. You are still married and committed if you don't wear it to workout. My ex didn't mind, he wouldn't have replaced it; he would have bought a cheap plain band. Jewelry is just too valuable and sometimes irreplaceable to swim in. Lost an earring in the pool once, diamond stud.

All good reasons.

Actually, I lost so much weight after I started tri training that I had to get a new ring (since you can't resize Ti).  It was so loose that I crossed my fingers when I peed to keep the ring from slipping off into the can.

The "real" ring is in my dresser; the one I wear day to day is my "stunt" ring.

Married for 12 years. Lost the ring at 4.
No, I haven't replaced it (I keep telling myself it'll eventually turn up).
Yeah, I'm still in the dog house.

Lost mine on a cruise stop in Mexico. I'm covered though because I gave it to my wife to hold while I went for a swim. I come back 30 minutes later and half the beach is wading around in knee deep water searching . She lost it and offered up a 100 dollar reward. I still don't have a ringFrown

It did fit tight, except in cold water, when apparently it did not.

I did too. A beautiful .75 carat diamond stud. My "good" earrings. With SCREWBACKS! I don't know how or why it came off, but we scoured the pool bottom and found... the screwback, but not the front. I wear NO jewelry at all except my LIVESTRONG bracelet when training.

Yes, in 06, the first time I did the 2 mi OWS in my town I lost my wedding ring.  Didn't tell my wife for several weeks and hoped she wouldn't notice until I figured out how to tell her.  Then one day she told me she felt terrible because she had lost her wedding ring.  SCORE!  I told her about mine and she was so relieved I wasn't mad that she didn't mind me losing mine.  She found hers a while later - mine is still at the bottom of Crystal Lake somewhere.  Losing weight and swimming are not a good combination for rings.

Part of me doesn't want to replace it because the next one is just a ring.  It's not THAT ring.  Does that make sense?

My husband lost his in the ocean and he wasn't even swimming.  We were all at the beach and we were playing by the shore in the waves.  He was leaning over with his hands down and when a wave came he watched his ring go flying off with it.  He coule see it tumble but couldn't grab it.  By the time the wave went out again it was gone.  We all looked for a while but it was hopeless.  We had never gotten around to getting it inscribed either so I don't think we'd have a chance of recovering it if someone found it.  Made me so glad we went with the white gold instead of platinum that i wanted!!

I've lost 2 now, one in the surf by the lighthouse @ Sanibel, and the other off party island on Morse. Lovely wife bought me a 3rd, got it a size smaller, and I don't wear it in any water deeper than my shower.

Sorry to read about the ring.

Mine comes loose in the shower so I take if off for showers, swimming, etc., so little chance of loosing...at least that way.  Actually the ring comes off for any training.

The Chesapeake Bay almost took mine too!  I was swimming right after we were married and 3 strokes in I felt it slip off and I caught it just before it came off.  I got lucky.

Now, I don't wear it to swim or when I race.  Any other time it's on my finger though.

Not related, but when we go on vacation, Nan has a "replacement" engagement ring that she wears instead of her real one.  It's CZ and if we lose it we're out $40.

I'm sorry about you losing it.  At least you lost it because you lost weight..that's a good thing right?!

My grandmother did this but never told anyone. Actually when she died, the ladies in the family were anticipating a huge appraisal on her jewelry, but they told us that ALL FOUR of her huge diamond rings were FAKE diamonds. She had two original rings from my grandpa (which were real) and had fakes made for each of them (which no one knew about). But somewhere down the line, she sold the real diamonds and replaced them with cz's. The gold was still real, but no real diamonds. Not a bad idea, the fakes, if you ask me.

While in Cancun (feb 2004) I took my ring off when I went for a long swim in the ocean fogeting that I had placed it in the beach bag. When I got back to the hotel room I proceded to shake the sand out of the bag over the 12th floor balcany railing.  The sound of the ring pinging off the roof of the restaurant 10 floor below made my heart sink. My wife bought a new one for me in June.  The following week it fell off my finger while playing waterpolo. I didn't even notice until is saw something on the bottom of the pool while doing laps 30 minutes later.   Now my ring sits on my dresser and my wife reminds me to put it on when we go out as a couple.

There are much easier ways to tell your hubby that you want to take up scuba diving!

I kid, I kid...  Sorry you lost your ring!

I don't usually wear a ring when I'm training.  Too many chances to lose it, damage it, etc.  If I want to wear one, I bought a cheaper "sport" ring.  It's titanium and is a lot harder to get off my finger.  Plus, it's not really a big deal if I lose it since it's only a surrogate ring.

Oh brother.  I feel for you.  I've lost weight too and now my ring is loose.  When working out in the pool it is in the locker.  When doing a race, it is on my wife's hand for safe keeping.  She would absolutely kill me if I lost this ring.  I would probably kill myself.

The original part of the ring was a band she bought for me in Budapest that has an inscription on it from 1925 (someone sold it obviously).  Then, when her father passed away two years ago, she and her sisters gave me his ring that had a huge diamond on it.  Well, we had the diamond taken out, added a second band to the ring and set the diamond in between.  To say this one is truly irreplaceable is an understatement.

And from the sounds of the posts above, you are not alone in your agony.
