Subject: RE: Most unusual item you ownA cut and polished piece of a charred rib moulding from the South Transect of the York Minister, the remains of a major fire in the cathedral in 1984. My parents live in York, and each time I visit them, I always go to the York Minster. I'm not a religious person (an atheist in fact ), but I do feel spiritual about some places, and York Minister always sends shivers down my spine. I'm constantly in awe of the designers and workers who built this amazing cathedral from 1220 and 1472 AD, and to the people who now renovate it and other historical buildings. My parents bought this piece of wood for me about 6 years ago, and I absolutely treasure it. I have always lived and traveled around the world, but I can now see and touch a piece of my hometown, plus marvel at the history associated with it. |
