GO RACERS GO!!

Heal up Mary and Monica!

I am racing a HM Sunday, but yesterday I switched to the Lighthouse Loop HM.  Cocoa Beach is in its first year and based upon the emails they sent out the last couple of weeks and what seemed to be some serious logistical issues that they were going to encounter, I decided to bail on them and run a race I've heard good things about.  It may be that the race goes off without a hitch and I spent extra money for no reason, but I (and others) didn't want to take that chance.  I've never bailed on a race like that before, it's weird!  Anyone else ever done it?

I am a little disappointed that I won't be getting the really cool finishers medal!

This sounds like a smart plan.  You do realize that we can only go by what's in your training log though, right?  ;-)

Sounds like some great races!!!! Hands I don't know about trading Cocoa for a Lighthouse but if you are more comfortable with the new one... well have fun!!!

We saw a sign for a 5 Miler when we were in Mystic. I would love to do a race there with DS2. Maybe I'll look for something next time I visit.

Go racers! Mary and Monica hope y'all are better soon!

This won't really be a race for me. My wife and her aunt and brother in law all wanted to do a half so I signed up to run with them. I had been eyeing a 70.3 the next weekend, so this will just be a training run. My poor wife's training was going great and she had worked up to an 8 mile long run about a month and a half ago, but then started to have IT band problems. She hasn't been able to run very much since, but she's going to give it a go Sunday.

GO RACING MANATEES GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Gah, one of these days I'll get off the DL.  Today is not that day, though I feel a heckuva lot better after getting rid of a bunch of gunk in my sinuses/throat/lungs after my little lunch-time work out.  Maybe, juuuuuuuust maybe I'm *gasp* on the mend??

I had such a great Birthday yesterday that I just have to tell you all about it. My birthday normally slides by in a very low key way, which I don't mid eat all but turning 40 yesterday turned into a fairly EPIC thing (sorry Chris).

When I got to work the girls had "redecorated" my office while I was out on Wednesday. It had streamers and posters and the floor was covered with balloons. It was great.

I then went to morning worship which we have everyday and which I was rostered to take. After I had finished they brought out chocolate mud cake so we all had cake at 8:30 in the morning. Which was great.

After coffee and cake Kaileen went home sick (she had only come in to say happy birthday and get a look at my reaction to my office. It was great that she came in but not great that she was sick.

I then got flowers from Phil which never ever happens and the card said "dinner is arranged for 7 dress fancy" of course I then had a panic about what to wear. So of course I had to call him to try and get more information out of him. He wouldn't tell me where we were going. Just that I had to dress better than if I was going to show dogs at the royal. Ok I can do that. But the control freak in me was not liking the not knowing.

I got more flowers from my MIL. which was great.

Even when I was getting dressed Phil still wouldn't say where we were going. "Just get in the car and stop asking". It turns out that we went to one of the fancy restaurants at the casino. As we walked into the foyer the guy at the piano starting to sing happy birthday to me. Which was embarrassing, but it was great too.

And when I looked over there was my mum and my sisters and Kaileen and Andy. Which truely was EPIC!

My mum and sisters had driven for 8 hours (one way) to come and have dinner with us. During dinner they informed me that they were kidnapping me for a couple of days and that I am to report to Kaileen's this morning at 8:30 with an over night bag. They won't say anything more.

Life has been incredibly busy, but in a good way! I am constantly on my toes with prioritizing running! J and I are headed to Iceland the beginning of November, which I just realized is really only a week and a half away! Story of my life lately!

Anyway, hoping to get a RR done at some point because I do really want to share. I just need to figure out how to get another hour in the day

Forgot to tell you all about my awesome time working at the aid station Saturday morning. First, the salted sliced cucumbers were a huge hit! Several of the ultra runners commented what a great idea that was. I'm sure it'll be all the rage next year

I had sooooo much fun! The ultra runners with whom I was staffing the station were incredible. They had done a host of different 100 milers, had paced each other and were full of incredible stories. So I spent several hours with people who say things like "it was only a marathon"  (not in a snobby way at all, that's just their frame of reference)

The athletes coming through were incredible. We were at the 9 mile point for the 53 miler and the 17 mile mark for the marathon. They came in and were wonderful, complimented the course, got some food and water/tailwind and were on their way. The volunteers were like a pit crew to each athlete that came in. I was in charge of marking down what time each runner came in and/or left. I was happy if I got one time or the other and the more experienced ultra runners came up to me with their number as they came in and left.

There was also a group doing an 18 miler. A friend of mine was in that group. She was the last 18er to come through and "my" crew treated her the same as the elite ultra runners that came through.

It was a great experience and now I have some ultra runner friends to follow on FB/IG/Blog

Funny side note, I mentioned possibly doing a ultra when with DS2 and said I can't because they'd never see me because I'd always be running. Ummm, I rarely see him anyway!!!
