I ended up going away without much notice to Phil's parents for the week. They have sold their house and are down sizing after 26 years on 5 acres so there is some major cleaning up and sorting out to do. Good news is that they have found something smaller that they like. I didn't get any training done but spent the week lifting and carrying flat out helping Phil clean out 2 of his dads 4 sheds while his brother and sisters sat inside and drank cups of tea. That's a tough decision to make, but I'm glad they were able to do it before a crisis. Will they be near you guys? As for doing the work... #manateestrong I think if it had been totally their choice they would have stayed put and just changed some things a bit, but too late cause they have accepted an offer on their place and now have till mid November to move out. I think this is mainly due to their eldest daughters constant nagging at them, she farms about 40 minutes drive from them and stays there whenever she is in town which is probably 2 nights a week. Does nothing while she is there's but complains that the big house is too much for her mum to keep clean. They are in their mid 80s and still in pretty great health and their mental capacity is still all there. When I say they are downsizing they are moving from a very large 4 bed, 2 bathroom place on 5 acres to a 3 bed, 2 bathroom place on 1/4 acre so they still have room for a veggie garden and Pa still has a shed to potter about in. If their eldest girl had her way she would have moved them into a 2 bed, 1 bath unit in the nursing home. She was adamant that they should only have one bathroom to clean and suggested that if the toilet was too far from the bedroom that her mum should just start wearing adult diapers to bed at night. She very nearly got decked by 3 people for that comment, but she had absolutely no idea how insulting it was. Anyway she and Phil's older brother (who is nearly as bad went out to the farm yesterday) and while they were gone their mum and dad out an offer in on house they saw on Thursday and both loved. No doubt they will get in trouble for it and their youngest sister will get in trouble for letting them do it. Before we left I said to them "I know I'm just the daughter in law and I don't get a 'vote' but it's your money, your home, you have to live there, have what you want. If you love this house then you should just buy it." The youngest daughter and Phil agreed with me and his mum's response was "of course you're family and that makes 5 against 2 cause we love the place." There is a reason that Phil and I live 500 miles away and it pretty much has his eldest sisters name written all over it cause we couldn't deal with her interference in our lives any more. Ahhh families. Oh, don't you just love the family drama? I hope they love their new home! Thanks to everyone for the get well wishes, I'm definitely much improved. The cold and flu season seems to be in full swing here in the Midwest. It seems early. |

It was a great event, I hope to have my report up either tonight or tomorrow. This was an incredible experience. In the brief chances I could talk to my wife during the race she would give me moments of inspiration by telling about the number of people liking or commenting on her 100 or so posts. I can't tell you how much that helped. I still have a lot to digest. Also, I can't express how much it helps to be a part of this group and how motivating you all are. Thank you for everything you have given me over the past year. I do appreciate it. You are a great group with a inspirational mentor. |
