Oh, dear manatees, thanks for all the laughs and smiles today, what a way to end the (work) day!  I'm glad I popped in for a visit before heading out the door!

And Janyne, "yous guys" is just those crazy Pittsburgh folk, not all of PA.    Kidding!  Kidding!  But seriously, it is most strongly associated with the Pitt area.

Speaking in PA...what exactly is up with your liquor laws? You buy 6 packs at the bar? And no more than 2 at a time?

Back in college at Penn State, if you wanted to have a party you would go to the "State Store" for liquor, the "Distributor" for cases and/or kegs, and the "Bottle Shop" for six packs.  The State Stores and Distributors were not open on Sundays at all.  You weren't allowed to carry out more than 144 oz. at a time at the Bottle shops, so if you wanted more you took it out, put it on the ground or gave it to someone, and then went back in.

Oh, and don't forget about the "dry townships" sprinkled about throughout Pennsyltucky, where you can't buy anything, period.

I'm sure it's very effective at keeping people sober, lol!

We still have dry counties/townships in NC.  That's why Hands doesn't got to Graham county, she goes to neighboring Swain county instead ;-)

Jet Black: Congratulations for not getting let go. Keep an eye out for new opportunities and expand your skill base.

I just had a Phone Interview for a position and that was followed up by two other calls by people in the same department. I am hopeful that this will generate an offer. I felt good with all the conversations. Now the waiting begins, but not the continued search.

Perhaps the best part was that one person complimented me on my resume saying that its the exact way he had formatted his resume and it looked great.. After so much time grinding away on a search it is awesome to have a positive experience.

Speaking in PA...what exactly is up with your liquor laws? You buy 6 packs at the bar? And no more than 2 at a time?

Hello, welcome to the 1700s!  Yeah...we have very conservative, weird liquor laws that are ever so slowly catching up to the rest of the country.  Wine/liquor is sold in 'state stores' only, or private wineries/distilleries.  Beer/cider is only sold by the case at distributors.  Distributors are not open on Sundays and only some state stores are.  6 packs can be bought at the bar only 2 at a time, but one pays MUCH more than what they would cost buying a case.  There are a few select restaurants that allow single bottles to be purchased, mainly sub/sandwich shops.  One of our newer laws allows grocery stores/convenience stores that serves food and has seating for 20 (?) people or more are allowed to sell beer by the bottle/build your own 6-pack.  Needless to say with this being a new law, most grocery stores and quickie marts aren't able to sell because they don't have food and seating.  Craziness.  I also think bottled alcohol can't be sold before 11 am or noon, or is that NY?

NERD ALERT:

States, like PA, that have state stores or otherwise run the liquor stores etc., are holdovers from the period after the end of Prohibition.  Many states did not like that Prohibition ended and still wanted to control the consumption of alcohol, so they got in the business of importing it from other states, distributing it and selling it themselves, setting all the Draconian rules that are still in place in some areas. Some states allowed the individual counties to decide whether or not to allow alcohol sales.  Prohibition "only" ended in 1933, so you're really asking a lot of your state to redo its liquor laws

It's awesome when you want to buy something like Poire Williams for a recipe and they say they can order it for you but you need to buy a case.  Uh...  Maybe I'll see if I can get that when I an in SC in February...  Or else maybe not since they only got rid of their whole minibottles weirdness recently.

Actually, now that I put that out there I should clarify, unfortunately they have kept their operation local in terms of no distribution. In fact, no bottling or canning. Just kegs and of course growler fills (which go bad in a few days.) I think shipping on a keg might be spendy...

mmm growler! I have had a growler last a month with no problem in my fridge. The cap was new and tight. then heat sealed so you could walk with it. And why would I wait to drink a growler....Homebrew on tap. Hmmm, perhaps that is why the only thing in the house dropping weight are the kegs!

Sounds like it could be a good strength workout, lugging all those kegs and growlers around.

Congratulations!  Now to get J (aka Mr. Erin) and perhaps Jetson new gigs and we'll be all set -- or at least fully employed.

Exactly, I have a fridge in the garage setup for sixth barrels (1/3 size full keg) and if it wasn't for training everyday I'd be 40 pounds heavier.  I'd be embarassed to tell you how many kegs I went through last year.

Good things for some Manatees today!

Me?  I got a nail in the rear tire of my motorcycle the other day.  No so good.

Contacted a local shop about getting a new tire. Yay!

They ordered the new tire, it arrived yesterday and they called today to get directions to the house so they could pick up the bike and put on the new tire.  Yay!

They got to the house without issue and talked with Tony who then went to look for the bike key.  Yay!

Guess who only has 1 key for the bike and it's on my key chain with me at work...  *SMH*

My hometown in southeastern Ohio is still dry. You have to drive 3 miles west if you want alcohol.

I now live in the South, and in my current town, our blue laws prevent you from buying anything except groceries before 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. So, if I go to Kroger, and want to buy tape, batteries or a bucket, they can't scan the those items unless it's after 1.

Any other Sufferlandrians in here still going?  I'm pretty much going to be in a fog at work the next two days.

I did see a cool report for my big race in March:

Oooh, good luck!!  The resume compliment is a good sign.  It's kind of like wearing an interviewer's favorite color: they're more predisposed to like you if you present yourself in a way that correlates with their own style.  Keep us posted!!

Well, mostly good news from the PT.  During my knee PT appointment, the physical therapist spent the time assessing both my hip and my shoulder/arm.  Here are her conclusions and recommendations:

  • Hip: No labral tear (HUGE sigh of relief!!!!), likely mild hamstring strain at the upper attachment point. Hamstring and adductors v. tight. Recommended rest for 10 days, gentle stretching, and heat or alternating heat/ice.
  • Shoulder/upper arm: inflammation and likely small tear at one of the smaller attachment points; no problem at insertion point or with rotator cuff. She recommended rest for 10 days, gentle isometric exercises, and ice 2x/day.

She said I could get a MRI on my hip if I wanted peace of mind but I'm happy to save my money and take her word for it.  I've gone through previous assessments for labral tears so I know what that feels like; this time didn't feel the same.  Plus she's worked on my hip before and I trust her judgment.

I'm to see her again in 2 weeks.  In the meantime, I'll sit tight (or loose, as the case may be) and follow her directions.  I'm really glad to finally have some answers and a plan without having to wait 6 weeks to see a sports medicine specialist!!

I also had a good conversation with my coach last night.  It's now clear to her that my body won't tolerate an aggressive approach to training or form changes.  We agreed that going slow has to be the name of the game.  That may mean progressing more slowly than I'd like but honestly, I'd rather be chomping at the bit to do more than doing this 2 steps forward, 1 step back dance I've been doing with her so far.  I sent her a summary of what the PT said as well as some metrics about my training over the past year to give her a sense of where I started from and how I progressed.

So things are finally looking up, plus DH got a call back today about a new job possibility.  Keeping my fingers crossed for him!!

Its nice to see that the PT news was good. This is an opportunity to rest, relax and recover so treat yourself and your body to things that promote healing and recovery. I also like that your coach seemed to listen to you and will work with you. The goal is a LONG term approach to health and fitness (we are just confused about what aerobic format works best). Our goal is being there and able to play with the next generations.

Good news with DH opportunity. Call backs and multiple phone conversations are a good sign. Collecting and sending good Karma to you!

So Manatees what are your thoughts on these? Do any of you use something like this? Lots of people here at work have Fitbits and there is a possibility of some type of fitbit competition over the cooler months I'm wondering if the HR element is worth it.

Woot woot!  Good on the bod and good on DH.  Fingers crossed, indeed, that both just keep moving forward!

Matt

I agree with Matt and add in a YAHOO!!!!! Keep calm and continue to improve, that's what we are all hoping for. Good to hear, Mary.

I second -or third-this emotion!!

YAY so happy to hear about this. Chin up. You have options and you have some answers and you need to make sure you stretch those aductors. I am guilty of this being an issue with me and I am trying hard to do this. It is why I make sure I go to yoga and do some additional stuff at home.

I like the "do yoga with me" site for targeting things. Just remember to never stretch beyond your edge.

Drive by hello. I have been so busy. I have managed to log my workouts and have my SO push me to go do them when we can. I have had a solid month for me. I think I have officially worked out more in 2015 than in 2014 Gulp... and lol

Monica sorry to hear about the motorcycle although I am a tad jealous as my motorcycle and my 400 hp (soon to be 650 hp) play toy of a car sit in the garage while the snow in the drive way hides it all. But being hit sucks glad you are ok. I had a near miss last summer. I didn't know I could make my Harley dance around a car as well as I did.

My shoulders hurt from swimming last night but not too horrible. I have finally found a couple of races I am going to sign up for. And I finally had a run outside. I thought it was nice with the sun but the -13 degree weather told me otherwise by the end of it.

Anyways back to work. Launching too many new parts and putting in new equipment... ie going to play with robots all day and boss people around.

Thanks to all of you that throw out inspire messages to me even though I haven't been on the forum part much. It means a lot and it is motivating.

THANK YOU all.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
