Sensei ![]() | ![]() Mine started to crap out (electronically) after a year and I sent it in for a fix/replacement for a 5$ fee. It's lasted another year or so and it started to act all wonky again. I replace the batteries, cleaned the bands, etc. I may just have had a bad version. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Going on 13 years now. The face is a little scratched up. That's the only reason I'm thinking about replacing it. |

![]() | ![]() I have two. One has lasted for nearly forever now (I'd say 15+ years) and then other is also nearly forever ago that I got it. I've had the batteries replaced with no issues so sounds like I just got good folks when I go to change it (I get it done at a jewelry store every time). |

![]() I have the basic split/HR with strap watch and it's going on three years and I couldn't be happier. Still original battery and it gets used and abused daily. |

How long did yours last? Ha that's funny. As I read the title of your thread I was thinking the same exact thing. My last Ironman last about 4 or 5 years, but it was the band that finally gave way, not the watch itself. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow, some of you folks are tough on watches! Seven years so far on mine. I've got something of an emotional attachment to mine - got it right before my first marathon and it's been with every big race since, several batteries and a new band later. I'm not wearing it nearly as much since I got my FR60 late last year but I still plan on bringing it with me to IMWI. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've got a few. One that is approaching twenty years old. Band replaced several times, battery replaced professionally as needed. Still where it hanging out in the pool with the kids, and general rough wear. Got another that died, replaced the band once and it may just need a new battery again, but I got a new one last year for fathers day so I am not going to bother with it. I also have a Garmin 201 that is going on about 5 years now. Works fine but I want to upgrade to one with HRM since my Reebok HRM has now died - actually threw it away yesterday because I am tired of messing with it hoping it will pick up the chest strap. Maybe I can talk my wife into the 305 for fathers day this year. I also have 4 "dress watches" the oldest of which is 17, 2 Seiko's and 2 Wenger/Swiss Army. Quality watches that are not overly expensive can last a lifetime when cared for properly. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm still using my timex ironman watch circa 1982. Really. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The one I have on now is probably 5 years old at least. I used to have a problem with the bands breaking or the little pins that hold the bands on the watch popping out. But I have a newer version that attaches the band on differently. No issues at all with it. Its scraped, scratched faded, stuff stuck in the screws but it "keeps on ticking". Ill probably have this one till the battery dies. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have some really, really old ones including one from the first year they made them (1986, 84?). A few have broken the plastic where the pin passes through the band. I think you can buy recent model replacements on line. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow, guess I'm the exception. I've killed 4 of them somehow. Each one in under a year. They always seem to leak and get waterlogged. No, I've never attempted to change the battery, and no, I don't swim in battery acid or anything. I swear I don't do anything out of the ordinary in them. Heck, I don't even swim that much, 3x/week on a really, really good week during IM build. I love how easy they are to use, but DH has banned me from buying any more b/c they die so quickly ![]() oh - adding, I get the $40 ones from Target. Those are the ones I've had trouble with. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well my first IM watch lasted until it was time to replace the battery and then it was no longer water proof and it died just after I reached the finish line of my first IM (IMFL). Next morning it was blank screen and flat lined, but it lasted until after I got to see my time and splits hat night. The next few have not been nearly as durable. I have worn an IM watch for 4 of my 5 IMs. i finished all of them but 3 of 4 (75%) Im Watches did not survivied the trip. I love the watches but they don't seem to last very well in salt water (Only one that survived was at IMAZ- Fresh Water swim) Edited by southwestmba 2011-02-14 4:15 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mine last as long as the battery does. They always drown post-battery change :-| I've taken them to Target and good jewelry stores for the battery replacement and none of them can do it right. Any suggestions for a waterproof battery change? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Funny timing for this to pop back up. I am sporting my 3rd watch today, I just picked it up from Target. Mine always have issues before the battery goes. The first one turned an icky shade of green from the chlorine and the buttons started getting harder to push. I keep that in my gym bag as a backup. The second one was somehow breached. I never opened it, but there's a little water in there. It works ok, but if it's humid I cannot read the display. I like to shop and buy new things, I was okay with picking out a new one. This time I went with the cheapest Target option. It's not "sleek" and it only has a 30-lap memory. $34.99 versus the last one which was $50 something at an expo. P.s. this very same watch is $50 on Timex.com. What a ripoff! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() funny someone mentioned passing theirs on to their son, i had to pry my current one away from my dad, he wasn't too keen on using his new fathers day gift, "but it works, why do i need a new one!" he was right, ive just replaced the band, i've had it for at least 8 years. |

Any suggestions for a waterproof battery change? Keep in mind that my watch is from 1982. But I took it to a mall kiosk to have the battery replaced and there was nothing technical to it. I could do it if I had a screwdriver that small. Just put things back like they were. My guess is that the newer watches have a really tricky o-ring. It's possible that the 'correct' procedure is to use a new o-ring each time? That may be why they are so adamant about 'professional' battery changes.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 3.5 years and for mine and the chlorine is starting to take its toll on the rubber covering the buttons. Almost all of them have been eaten away but so far it is still waterproof. Will absoluletly buy another timex ironman watch when this one disintegrates! |
![]() ![]() |
Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My current one I've had 2 years ( the band, though not breaking, has started slipping out of the clasp.) The one I had before it I've had for 4 years, and It is still perfectly fine (I just wanted to "upgrade")
I've also got one of the military timex watches a friend gave me when he got back from Iraq. It's been through a LOT and I'd say it's probably the most reliable watch I've ever owned. Probably 10+ years old. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mine last 2-3 years. Typically I send it back to Timex once for a new battery. By the time that second battery starts to die the band itself is dying AND the watch is all banged up. At that point I just buy a new watch. I mean, really...they are what, $50? I spend more than that on one pair of shoes that will only last 3-6 months. |

My last one still "misted" a little inside after swimming but never drowned. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() the bear - 2011-02-13 4:47 AM Watchbands can be changed, you know? Even if it's the kind you can't change yourself, you can send it to Timex with $10 and a few weeks later they'll send you a new watch. Is this true for the resin bands also? I have a timex Ironman with a resin band that Broke. I loved that Watch like no other and it lasted me 2 years of straight use before the band broke during a run. I still have the watch part with broken band pieces on it and if I could replace the band I would love to. Here is my watch. (scroll down to see the actual watch if you want to see the type of band I am talking about) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got this for Christmas in 1996 or 1997 and is on its second band. This thing has been scuba diving over 100 feet, to the top of Mauna Kea, hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, hiked 2/3 of the 4000' peaks in the White Mountains, done 2 marathons, a 70.3 on down to a sprint, ridden a century, and quite a few other things I can't remember. It's been an awesome watch. (watch.jpg) Attachments ---------------- watch.jpg (61KB - 16 downloads) |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have lost 2 of them in the span of a year. I am now on my 3rd. It seems to be doing just fine. Although, I have only had it since December. It's probably about time for me to lose it.
