Originally posted by Jet Black Thanks everybody! It was a good day. The bike course was smoking fast. I avg about 20W less than I was originally planning (dialed back for the heat) but went faster than I thought I would at the original target watts. The first two laps of the run were brutal. So hot. It started raining just a little bit into the 3rd lap and it saved me. HR dropped 15 Bpm. The weather thing was a cluster. They told us out time stopped at this timing mat but we were supposed to go to the next aid station to shelter. It was a mile away! So I just kept running. When I got there I tried to get the story and they said they were stopping the clock for an hour. I had 3 miles left. So I did what any manatee would do and I did what I wanted. I didn't stop. Thought I might get DQ'd but doesn't look like it. My 2nd to last split is so long because I was talking to those people for a few minutes before I decided to just keep going. It was hard enough starting up again after only a few minutes, can't imagine waiting an hour! I probably couldn't have run again! Thanks again!

Congratulations Sean! Glad you didn't have to stand down for an hour or more!!

Super impressive race Sean! And what craziness both before and during too. I hope it was a good experience.

Crazy day out there today. Starky smashing the bike course putting most of the pro men in the pain cave and penalty box trying to catch him (then blew up at mile 9). Insane hot temps followed by crazy downpours and lighting causing the officials to close the run course for anyone that wasn't at least 5k to the finish, midnight hour cut to 11pm because of the short bike course then change again to midnight, because of the course closure, the entire finishers shoot was blown over in the storm so they re-built it in between participants coming thru, and some other stuff that well...you would just have to be here to believe.

However, Monica finished her 3rd ironman and Sean freaking destroyed his first. Congrats guys!

Great Job Sean and Monica! You should get some sort of Ironman bonus for the conditions, maybe the race gear should read "IRONMAN!". I was watching the live feed of the finish and it looked insane.

Buzzing as I did it. Swim was great but should be at 400m, bike need to work on and run was painful but happy with the time! 1:41:13 so came 260 out of 557 so very happy with that. I know what I need to work on for the next one and that is certainly motivating! Now time for a beer and will write the race report tomorrow! Cheers guys for the advice over the last few months and in the future as you have helped loads

Congrats Sean and Monica!  I was so confused as I checked in when it was really hot, then the next time I checked in everyone was talking about brutal weather.  I just assumed we were still talking about heat and humidity.  I couldn't understand why they would close the course for that!  Rain and lightening makes much more sense!  Glad you both made it through a tough day.

Congrats Tom!

More strength building via yard work this weekend. Helping my brother out this time. Prepped a lot of ratty area for what looks to be about 12 yards of mulch, dug for a bunch of plants/bushes, took down a couple 20-25 ft trees. Cut & sorted what ended up being a pile of 50-60 ft long and waist high. Quite literally moving tons of stuff. Wolverine's responses work just as well for here.

Happy birthday Yanti! If there's a race with 40-49, we will be in the same AG for a few more years. Hope you celebrated well.

The running aspect of an Ironman triathlon is a marathon. Most people take on a marathon as a single event and the training for this uses up a lot of their time. Here are some tips for the run.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
